Or did one of the suits feel he would bring truth (or truthiness) to the anchor desk?

For someone who was such a great field reporter, it seemed like such a waste of talent to stick him in a chair, give him a script and tell him to look at the red light.

We have the same situation here, although, naturally, not in the same league, with Andy Mehalshick. He's obviously a far better street than anchor and wasting his talents being stuck in the studio.

Going inside, whether for Dan or Andy, isn't always a promotion ... or the best one.Tom Cartenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16691511560739313001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6482376402724312298.post-35564000931855501182008-02-18T16:19:00.000-05:002008-02-18T16:19:00.000-05:00For many years, Dan Rather fronted the leading new...For many years, Dan Rather fronted the leading newscast in the U.S.
His appeal was that he was a damn good reporter. But later on Rather became erratic with that "What's the frequency, Kenneth?" business, etc.
I think most of Rather's problem was that he followed Walter Cronkite. Who could follow him?
Rather did not age into an avuncular Uncle Walter and he was not forced out at 65 like Cronkite was. Had Rather left earlier, he would have been remembered with much more fondness.
I personally preferred Doug Edwards and Bob Trout over Rather, but what do I know?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
